As reported by BroadwayWorld, the theatre community was saddened this week to learn of the passing of groundbreaking theatre composer, lyricist and director Elizabeth Swados.

It was later announced that her most famous work, the Tony-nominated musical RUNAWAYS, will be given a concert production as part of this summer's Encores! Off-Center season at New York City Center. RUNAWAYS was originally produced by Joseph Papp at The Public Theater and transferred to Broadway in 1978. Click here for a video profile of Swados' theatre career, including clips of RUNAWAYS, DOONESBURY, RAP MASTER RONNIE and ALICE IN CONCERT.

Aside from theatre, Swados was also a prolific writer of novels and children's books, perhaps the most notable being THE GIRL WITH THE INCREDIBLE FEELING, about staying true to yourself.

This video of THE GIRL WITH INCREDIBLE FEELING, using the author's own illustrations, includes footage of Swados performing live.
