FIRST DRAUGHTS Continues This Week

First Draughts is a developmental reading series produced by Amios, a cooperative whose mission is to build community through art. First Draughts is dedicated to expanding four short plays, first produced at SHOTZ! (Amios' monthly short-play series) into full-lengths over the course of a six-month development process. This spring's plays will include:

Monday, April 24th, 7pm:

Deliver: Letters to the Motherland From a Foreign Body, by Liz Morgan, directed by Lauren Miller, featuring Erin Roché*, Katie Rose Krueger*, Kia Sayyadi, and Chris Raddatz.

Synopsis: This poetic homage to immigrants focuses on three characters who all find themselves feeling unsafe in the place they call home: A young black doctor practicing medicine in rural America; her patient, a pregnant woman with a dark past; and a mysterious foreign body who must journey to a new world.

Liz Morgan is a playwright, poet and performer. She is thrilled to be returning to the Amios First Draughts reading series to expand her short play, Motherland (The Melting Shotz). Liz graduated from the Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Acting Program where she was the recipient of the Davis Wickham Prize for Excellence in Playwriting. As a resident artist with Amios, her writing credits include Projection (Shotz to the Future), which was nominated as a finalist in the New York New Works Theatre Festival and Breaking & Entering (Shotz for Justice, First Draughts), which was recently announced as a semi-finalist in the New Works Lab at Stratford. Liz is an alum of the INKtank Lab with Rising Circle where she presented The Clark Doll at the 2016 PlayRISE Festival. She is currently developing new performance pieces at JACK and The Fire This Time Festival Writers' Group. Her plays have been developed at the POTPOURRI! World Women Works Series, Rites and Reason Theatre and Manhattan Rep. Liz was recently named a finalist for the I AM SOUL Playwrights Residency at the National Black Theatre where her playwriting will be featured in their Keep Soul Alive Reading Series. She is also slated to present some of her writing at Judson Art Wednesdays Magic Time series in 2017. Her satirical one-act, A Matter of Taste is published in the Long Island City One Act Festival Anthology. Her poetry has been featured on The Huffington Post and the Medium publication, Athena Talks.
