Eamon Mathews Offers Love Story in STRANO

In his new book, "Strano" (published by Trafford Publishing), author Éamon Mathews pens a moving story that artfully depicts the coming-out of a gay man and his journey to love and acceptance.

Set mostly in Ireland and London, "Strano" explores the spiritual and sexual self. Damien, a young Irishman, longs to find shared intimacy and a sustained, loving relationship with a man. A devoted Catholic, Damien travels to Glendalough Abbey to train as a monk under the guidance of Dom Ferdia, who tried to help Damien reconcile his faith with his sexuality.

After leaving the abbey, Damien embarks on a search for love and faces intolerance from the Catholic Church. Through many trials and tribulations, Damien learns to love himself completely and find the love he always wanted.

Mathew's self-described "crossover novel" includes an engaging cast of characters from the timid sage Dom Ferdia to the indomitable Tia Maria, a sharp-witted transvestite who befriends Damien in London.

"It is an alternative, human love story," Mathews says. "Damien's path to true love is strewn with horrors, some his own making but the more formidable ones supplied by a homophobic church and society. The overall context is one of religion and sexual mores."
