Neil Blomkamp's ELYSIUM, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, comes in at the top slot for the Friday, August 9, box office with $11.2 million. The film is eyeing $29-30 million for the weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Blomkamp's 2009 hit DISTRICT 9 opened to $37.4 million, with around $14 million on its Friday debut, which is just a bit above this follow-up. ELYSIUM will be sitting slightly under Sony's original projections but is fairing well so far.

Also at the box office this weekend are New Line's WE'RE THE MILLERS, Disney's PLANES and 20th Century Fox's PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS.

WE'RE THE MILLERS features Jason Sudiekis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, Will Poulter and Ed Helms and follows a group of people who team up as a fake family to smuggle marijuana out of Mexico. The movie took $8.5 million on Friday, bringing its five-day debut up to an estimated $37 million.

Disney's PLANES brought $8.1 million on Friday and is looking at $23 million for the weekend. The animated feature, starring the voice talent of Dane Cook as Dusty Crophopper, continues to beat family fare competitors THE SMURFS 2 and TURBO at the box office.

PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, based on the YA series by Rick Riordan and directed by Thor Freudenthal, drew $4.8 million yesterday. Its five-day total should be near $24 million. The movie stars returning actors Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson and Alexandra Daddario.
