Hartford Stage's upcoming spring 2008 production of the seldom-performed Tennessee Williams play The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore will star Olympia Dukakis

Set on the southern coast of Italy, the play concerns "elderly Mrs. Goforth, (who) frantically tries to complete her memoirs before her illness overtakes her. As she recounts the details of her rich and flamboyant life, a wandering artist, Christopher Flanders, mysteriously arrives onto the terrace of her Italian villa. Does he offer one last chance for love and salvation, or is he the Angel of Death?," according to Hartford State notes.  Dukakis will play Mrs. Goforth.

The production will be directed by Michael Wilson as the completion of his Williams marathon, which has been presented at Hartford Stage over the last decade.  Last year, Summer and Smoke, starring Amanda Plummer, was presented.

Dukakis has appeared in more than 200 productions on and off-Broadway and in regional theaters throughout America. Dukakis received two OBIE Awards for her performances in Bertolt Brecht's Man Is Man and Christopher Durang's The Marriage of Bette and Boo.  Recent theater credits include Agamemnon at New York's Aquila Theatre Company; Rose, by Martin Sherman, at The National Theatre in London and on Broadway (as well as at Hartford Stage); and Credible Witness, by Timberlake Wertenbaker, at The Royal Court Theatre in London.  Her many film credits include Moonstruck, for which she earned Academy and Golden Globe awards. Television credits include "Tales of the City" and "More Tales of the City" for which she earned one of several Emmy Award nominations.

Although the company's complete 2007-2008 season has not been announced, Hartford Stage will present Our Town, starring HAl Holbrook as the Stage Manager, and Jeremy Sams' adaptation of Zerline's Tale, starring Elizabeth Ashley.  That production will run in Jan.-Feb. '08.
