The Ware Center will show the film, Diplomacy, a historical drama directed by Academy Award winner, Volker Schlnödorff, on February 23rd, February 24th, and February 26th, at 6 pm. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.

Diplomacy is a captivating rendition of the stage production by Cyril Gély. Schlnödorff has fashioned an elaborate theme of political manners between two opposite characters. While Choltitz establishes himself behind his duty to abide by all military orders without hesitancy, Nordling tries everything he can to prevent the destruction of the cherished 'City of Light'.

The film is set in the summer of 1944, and the Allies are headed towards Paris. Hitler commands that the French capital should not be overpowered by the enemies. If the capital falls into the wrong hands, 'only as a field of rubble' will transpire. The person assigned to complete this difficult task is Wehrmacht commander of Greater Paris, General Dietrich von Choltitz. Choltitz already has mines fixed on the Eiffel Tower, in the Louvre and Notre Dame and on the bridges over the Seine. Nothing should be left as a reminder of the city's previous splendor. However, at dawn on 25 August, Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling infiltrates German headquarters through a secret underground tunnel. This action begins a tension-filled game of cat and mouse as Nordling tries to persuade Choltitz to abandon his plan.

This film's running time is 1 hr 24 mins and is French and German with English subtitles.
