Chita Rivera will receive The 2008 Catherine Zeta-Jones Award for a Legend in Dance at The National Dance Foundation of Bermuda annual gala on March 1 at the Fairmont Southampton Resort. Zeta-Jones, a member of the NDFB board and Bermuda resident, will present the award to Rivera.
An accomplished and versatile actress/singer/dancer, Chita Rivera has won two Tony Awards as Best Leading Actress in a Musical and received seven additional Tony nominations. She recently starred in the Broadway and touring productions of The Dancer's Life, a dazzling new musical celebrating her spectacular career. Chita received the coveted Kennedy Center Honor in Washington, DC and has created the starring roles in such celebrated musicals as West Side Story, Chicago, The Rink, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Sweet Charity, Bye Bye Birdie and more.
The National Dance Foundation of Bermuda is committed to making sure that those young people with the talent to success are given every opportunity to do so. The Foundation's mission is to help raise the standards of dance excellence in Bermuda by providing a year-round calendar of world-class training opportunities for the Island's dancers, teachers and choreographers. The Foundation also administers a scholarship programme that awards funds to qualifying members of the Bermuda dance community for study in Bermuda and abroad.
