"Music for the French salon," stated Terry Orcutt, describing the upcoming Canton Symphony Orchestra's Casual Series concert. Orcutt and pianist Shuai Wang will perform three works by French composers Frances Poulenc, Camille Saint-Saëns and Henri Dutilleux.

Orcutt continued, "Oboe lovers won't want to miss these great pieces. Each piece highlights a different facet of the oboe that together show the broad range and dexterity of the instrument. And the piano accompaniment is simply masterful."

"These French compositions are always crowd favorites," said Wang. "They paint a classic picture of what we all imagine to be the French culture - love, passion, heartache and tragedy." She and Orcutt take the stage together as a duet for the first time. The Casual Concerts are today, March 13 at 1pm and Friday, March 14 at 7pm in the Cable Recital Hall (inside Canton's Cultural Center for the Arts on Market Ave North).

Orcutt is currently principal oboe of the CSO, a post he has held since 2000. He has also played with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Opera, the Wheeling Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic. A lover of chamber music, Orcutt performs regularly throughout northeastern Ohio in various chamber settings and has won several prizes at various national music competitions.

Praised by the press for her "astute musical sensibilities" and "extraordinary finesse," Shuai Wang is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician. She recently performed with the Cleveland Orchestra and has performed nationally in various solo and ensemble concerts.

The Chesapeake Energy Casual Series offers a musically intimate setting. Typically only an hour-long concert, the audience is up-close and personal with the musicians, who provide background to many of the pieces they play. A reception with the musicians is included with each concert.

The Casual Series concerts are an affordable $15 for adults or $10 for seniors/students. Tickets are available online at www.CantonSymphony.org, by calling 330-452-2094, at the box office window located inside the Cultural Center for the Arts (weekdays 10am-2pm), or by walk-up. There are senior, student and group discounts available. Dress is casual and concerts are appropriate for ages 8 and older.

Founded in 1937, the Canton Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble and organization dedicated to performing concerts that enrich, educate and entertain. Under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, the orchestra performs classical, pops, holiday, and educational programs. Most performances are in Umstattd Performing Arts Hall, 2323 17th Street NW, Canton, Ohio (at McKinley High School across from C.T. Branin Natatorium). Parking at McKinley High School is free.
