Author Calvin L. King could not be prouder of his daughter Lourdess, who has recently turned 10 years old. In honor of her birthday, King releases his new memoir, "Daddy, Did You Hear That Bird?: The Miracles of Hearing, Family, and Love" (published by iUniverse), the story of Lourdess' first six months of life and the miracle that changed their family forever.

"Daddy, Did You Hear That Bird?" tells the incredible true story of King's inspiring daughter who taught him a moving lesson in love and faith. So devoted to one another, King and his wife Michele anxiously await the arrival of their first daughter to be named Lourdess, but everything changes when Lourdess is born deaf.

Faced with disappointment and uncertainty about their daughter's future, King and his wife do everything they can to remain positive and find out anything they can about their daughter's condition. As the family adjusts to life with a special needs child, an unexpected miracle changes their lives.

King hopes his book will resonate with readers who have special needs family members and friends, reminding them to be thankful.

"Love and faith can help overcome disappointment and lead to miracles," King reminds his readers. "I want them to see that people can work through issues and challenges by communicating, being patient and relying on family and close friends for support."
