Blues Guitar Legends B.B. King & Buddy Guy Play the Orpheum Theatre 2/20/2010

By:

B.B. King, a living legend universally hailed as the reigning "King of the Blues," and Buddy Guy, five-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, play Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre (710 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis), at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010.

B.B. King, from the blues-rich Mississippi Delta, is the single most important electric guitarist of the last half century and his innovative bent notes and staccato picking style have influenced generations of blues and rock guitarists. He and his guitar "Lucille" have thrilled audiences with countless hits including "Sweet Sixteen" and "Every Day I Have The Blues," Between 1951 and 1985, King notched an impressive 74 entries on Billboard's R&B charts, and he was one of the few full-fledged blues artists to score a major pop hit when his 1970 smash "The Thrill Is Gone" crossed over to mainstream success. From that time, he has partnered with such musicians as Eric Clapton and U2, while managing his own acclaimed solo career.

Since the early ‘60s, Buddy Guy has left an indelible mark in the development of blues music with his wild electric guitar playing and impassioned vocals. A legendary pioneer of Chicago's fabled West Side sound, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has been a chief guitar influence to rock titans like Hendrix, Clapton and Vaughan. Guy's hits include "Damn Right," "I've Got The Blues," "Feels Like Rain" and "Slippin' In." His most recent studio album is "Skin Deep" (2008) featuring all original material. In addition to his Grammys, he has received 23 W.C. Handy Blues Awards (the most any artist has received), the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement and the Presidential National Medal of Arts.
