What: Beijing Playhouse Drama Club Workshop-How to perform in readers theatre

When: Tonight, March 4 at 7:30 pm

Workshop Leader: Chris Verrill, director of Charity Readers Theatre production of 12 Angry Jurors.

Workshop Focus: Beijing Playhouse Drama Club is building on the success of last year's Our Townand back at it again with another Charity Readers Theatre production. The classic 12 Angry Jurorswill be the next Charity Readers Theatre show. This workshop will teach actors how to do rehearse and perform an entire show in just one week.

Charity Readers Theatre, presented by Beijing Playhouse Drama Club, is all about acting, acting, acting. There are almost no costumes, no props, no sets, no lighting design, no sound design, no subtitles. It's all acting. And as it is readers theatre, actors with large parts will not be required to completely memorize their lines. The show will be performed-not simply read. But the actors with larger parts will be allowed to carry scripts to refer to.

Charity Readers Theatre rehearses for only one week. And at the end of that week, we do one performance only. It's a show in a week. That will be one extremely intense week. Actors who are cast will live and breathe this show for that week.

100% of all ticket sales are donated to charity. Not 10% or 15% donated like some so-called fundraising events. But 100%. We do charity events they way they are supposed to be done.

This drama club workshop explains the Charity Readers Theatre process in advance of the April 6-12, 2014 12 Angry Jurors dates. So it's a good time to get involved and get to know the crew and learn about English theatre in China.

Where: Wahoo Bar at the North Gate of Ritan Park.

Language and Age: If you have lots of experience or none at all, if you are a native speaker of English or still gaining confidence speaking English, if younger or older, all are more than welcome.

What: Never acted before? Give it a try! Beijing Playhouse, China's English Broadway Theatre, is always looking for experienced actors as well as undiscovered talent.

Thinking About Auditioning for a Future Show? If you are thinking about auditioning for Charity Readers Theatre production of 12 Angry Jurors on April 6 (tentative date), this is the perfect opportunity to talk to the crew and learn more about the show.

12 Angry Jurors: Emmy award winning 12 Angry Jurors, an American stage treasure, is the gripping, penetrating, and engrossing examination of a diverse group of twelve jurors who are uncomfortably brought together to deliberate a seemingly open-and-shut murder trial come up with a unanimous decision-either guilty or not guilty. The compelling, provocative play examines the twelve's deep-seated personal prejudices, perceptual biases, indifference, anger, personalities, unreliable judgments, cultural differences, ignorance and fears, that threaten to taint their decision-making abilities and potentially lead them to a miscarriage of justice. Juror #8, voted one of the greatest heroes of American literature, slowly manages to convince the others that the case is not as obviously clear as it seemed in court.
