BWW Reviews: PETER PAN JR at Mountain View High School

My husband and I took the opportunity to make a date night from reviewing PETER PAN JR. presented by Treasure Valley Youth Theatre and the Meridian Arts Commission. We arrived at Mountain View High School, just in time to find our seats, and we were greeted by happy staff on the box office and house crew.

Mountain View High School has a large auditorium. The audience filled over half of the seats; I would guess there were over 150 people in the audience of this performance (I reviewed the last one at 7 pm).

I loved the sets, they seemed so simple, yet they conveyed where they were so well. The simple drop of a tree to note that you were now in Neverland with the compass rose to help define the side of the stage that belonged to the pirates. The costumes were impressive to have so many characters to dress and yet they all look like they belonged together. You could tell which group the character belongs to based on their costume alone: whether they were a pirate, a mermaid, a lost boy, or an Indian. There were 48 young actors on the stage from ages 8 to 18.

I would say my one complaint was that it was hard to hear the actors. They needed to be mic'ed. From when I could hear the actors, they all knew their lines and their voices were strong. The issue was the size of the venue. I couldn't even tell if they had mic'ed the floor to try to help.

We did enjoy our night out watching all those actors perform for us. This was a very well cast show and you can tell that there wasn't any "I am better than you" attitudes. They all seemed to like each other and everyone was important.
