Summer breaks are a special time for performing arts students in college as we venture out to various regional theaters across the country to gain precious professional experiences. Last summer, I was lucky enough to be a part of the apprentice company at Flat Rock Playhouse in North Carolina, where I joined the Equity Membership Candidate Program and performed in the 2 main stage shows among other duties as an apprentice. I was surrounded by an amazing group of apprentices and actors and had an absolute blast! I've been asked back to be a second year apprentice this summer and have decided to document the 3 months through video blogs.

One of the great things about the apprentice program at Flat Rock Playhouse is all of the masterclasses that we get to take from the staff and Equity actors at the theatre. So far we've had multiple classes in areas ranging from audition prep, tap, and comedy to taxes and budgeting. Apprentices perform in the mainstage and Family Series shows alongside Equity cast members. This year, we are featured in Annie and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on the mainstage, and The Little Mermaid on the downtown stage. Other apprentice duties include working in the crew shops, parking cars before shows, and performing the children's shows at the Carl Sandburg Home.

We are now half way through the summer! Watch out for my weekly vlogs as I continue my "summer on the rock"!
