The Art for the Soul Exhibit at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center opens tonight. Put some art in your soul with works by nine of the finest African-American artists, including 20th and 21st century masters Raymond Lark and Charles Bibbs. The exhibit, curated by Utah art collector Gordon Dew, will be on display at the Cultural Center through March 1, 2011.

An opening reception will be held January 13, 2011 from 6-8pm. At the center, which is located at  1355 West 3100 South WVC, UT 84119.  Everyone is invited to the Art for the Soul opening reception and exhibit free of charge.

American painter, draftsman, watercolorist, and printmaker Raymond Lark (1939 - 2005) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and rose from a shoe shine boy, farm laborer, junk man, and unskilled factory worker to become a successful artist.  Early disadvantages never crushed his will to move up in the world. It is evident that from an early age he exhibited a tenacious work ethic, and a vision to succeed, as indicated by the pieces on display in this exhibition.

Internationally acclaimed artist Charles Bibbs, whose work is featured in museums, galleries, organizations, and homes of many collectors, displays a deep sense of Spirituality, Majesty, Dignity, Strength and Grace in his images that is done in a combination of realistic and larger-than-life interpretations of contemporary subjects that are ethnically rooted.
