"Art isn't easy," wrote a certain composer/lyricist for his Pulitzer Prize-winning exploration of obsessive creativity, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, but it gets a little easier when all you have to do is fill in the lines.

So artist Brian Kelly's coloring book for adults, "Color Me Sondheim" looks like the perfect bit of therapy for musical theatre aficionados obsessed with the complexities of Stephen Sondheim musicals like COMPANY, FOLLIES, INTO THE WOODS and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

Former Brooklynite Kelly, whose main occupation is creating presentation renderings for corporate events, got the idea to draw a series of ten specialty coloring books while working from his San Diego home one day and listening to an NPR interview with Johanna Basford, illustrator of the best-selling coloring book for adults, "Secret Garden."

"I thought to myself, I can do that," says Kelly, perhaps intentionally quoting an Ed Kleban lyric from A CHORUS LINE.

While his series includes non-theatrical titles like "Color Me Hummel," "Color Me Rock 'n' Roll" and a book about New York titled "Color Me Fuggetaboutit!," theatre fans will be especially interested in "Color Me Broadway" and "Color Me Shakespeare."
