Arianna String Quartet & Gunsmoke Set for Music Mountain This Weekend

The summer continues at wonderfully air conditioned Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing chamber music festival, with the return of country music favorite, Gunsmokeon tonight, July 20th (6:30PM) and Arianna String Quartet on Sunday, July 21st (3PM) with guest artist Pamela Mia Paul, piano. For 84 seasons, Music Mountain is the rare summer gem where music lovers can enjoy a variety of genres from weekend to weekend. Chamber music, jazz, and country concerts at Gordon Hall are scheduled through September 8th.

Country Music enthusiasts, mark your calendars for Classic Country, Rockabilly and Western Swing---all rolled in the legendary band Gunsmoke. The Saturday night concert is guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet as they bring country magic to Falls Village. For three decades, this local band has been entertaining audiences at fairs, festivals and in 2011 was inducted into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame.

The esteemed Arianna String Quartet returns to Music Mountain for Sunday afternoon concert, performing Mozart: String Quartet in G Major, D. 387; Schubert: Piano Quartet: Adagio & Rondo Concertante In F Major, D. 487; and Schubert: String Quartet in D Minor, D. 810 "Death & The Maiden." Guest artist Pamela Mia Paul, piano, joins the quartet.

Since 1992, the Arianna String Quartet has established itself as one of America's finest chamber ensembles. Competition winners and grant recipients, this powerful and exhilarating quartet has brought their musicianship to Brazil, South Africa, and Tokyo. Based in St. Louis since 2000, the Arianna String Quartet serves as associate professors of their respective instruments, and quartet-in-residence at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.

Pamela Mia Paul has garnered consistent critical praise for her performance as a soloist and a chamber musician. She has performed throughout the US, Europe and Asia, appearing in many of the world's major concert halls. Ms. Paul is currently Regents Professor of Piano at the University of North Texas.

The Saturday Twilight series will continue with Swingtime Big Band (July 27), Galvanized Jazz Band (August 16), and the first annual Folk Music Jamboree (August 24).

Upcoming Chamber Music Concerts include: Dover String Quartet, with Roberto Diaz, president of the Curtis Institute (July 28), Amernet String Quartet (August 3 & 4) with a special arrangement of "Peter & the Wolf" on Saturday plus cellist Ronald Leonard on Sunday.
Located in Falls Village, Connecticut, Music Mountain is located on Music Mountain Road, where a short scenic drive will bring music lovers to Gordon Hall with ample & free parking. Iced Tea, Coffee and cookies are available and, as is the Music Mountain custom, audience members are invited to picnic before the concerts on the scenic grounds.

Tickets: Saturday: $30 at the door, $27 in advance. Sunday: $35 at the door, $30 in advance. Children ages 5-18 are admitted FREE to all concerts when accompanied by a ticket holder (Music Mountain gratefully acknowledges children admission support by the Hellen Plummer Foundation for a gift in memory of James Merrill, Connecticut's first Poet Laureate).
