No one represents the magic of New York's nightlife better than Andy Warhol, the legendary artist who gave the city a gallery of colorful disciples and defined much of its creative golden age. Now, for the first time, Warhol's own view of glamorous New York after dark is on display with a series of photographs featuring personal and candid moments with luminaries such as Mick Jagger, Madonna, Deborah Harry, Grace Jones and others. The new exhibit, curated by 1stdibs - the world's largest online luxury marketplace - will debut on September 09, 2013 online as well as in a gallery exhibition at the New York Design Center. The exhibit will be curated by Warhol expert and collector Jim Hedges of Hedges Projects.

Entitled I'll Be Your Mirror: Photographs by Andy Warhol from the Private Collection of Warhol's Inner Circle, the exhibit will be on view from September 9 to October 7, taking viewers inside Warhol's world in the way he himself envisioned it.

"This collection brings together a unique body of Andy Warhol photographs, many of which have never been previously seen," said Jim Hedges, "showcasing the most personal side of the artist's life, guiding the viewer to a new perspective on Andy's powers of observation, his art-making process, and his most captivating relationships."

The exhibition is open to the public, and will include over 100 black and white silver gelatin photographs by Andy Warhol from the private collections of his longtime diarist, Pat Hackett, and last companion, Sam Bolton. The curatorial approach focuses on four themes:

  • Andy Warhol's Nightlife, including scenes from Studio 54, featuring 8x10 black and white photos of Liza Minnelli, Tina Turner, Halston, and Bette Midler among others.
  • The World of the Rolling Stones, including band members and their lovers Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall and Patty Hansen as well as photographs of Jagger on vacation in Montauk.
  • Andy and The Factory, featuring Warhol's diverse world and the confluence of Hollywood luminaries, music, art, literature, and theater that happened at his celebrated workspace, The Factory.
  • Newly Released Works by Sam Bolton, with never-before-seen photographs taken by Sam Bolton, Warhol's last companion, including candid color photographs of Dolly Parton, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

All images featured in the exhibition will be available for purchase on 1stdibs.com along with a larger selection of Warhol photographs from Hedges Projects.
