Andrea Sanseverino Galan Named Vice President of Development of Manhattan School of Music

Manhattan School of Music has named Andrea T. Sanseverino Galan, Vice President for Development.

Ms. Gala assumed this position on April 1st. James Gandre, MSM president said, "Ms. Galan brings to Manhattan School of Music great skills, experience, and energy along with her personal alignment with our mission and who we are as a community."

Andrea T. Sanseverino Galan comes to MSM from the Americas Society/Council of the Americas where she was Senior Director of Foundation and Institutional Giving and led the development team responsible for acquiring grants and contributions from foundations, corporations, government agencies, elected officials, and individuals in support of the organization's capital projects, cultural programs, policy initiatives, and individual membership. During her seven years there, she has led efforts which have increased contributed giving by more than 200 percent.

She served as the State of Ohio Arts Council's (OAC) Representative in Argentina from 1999 until 2004. In this role, she established a bilateral cultural cooperation agreement between the State of Ohio Governor's Office and OAC with the Mayor's Office and Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, and directed cultural exchanges between Ohio and Argentina in opera, visual arts, theater, dance, cultural policy, and historic preservation. She also served as an international cultural policy and development consultant to UNESCO and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, working on projcets in France, Sweden, Argentina and Cuba. Previously, she was a program officer at the Center for Arts and Culture, a national cultural policy think tank in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Galan has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University's Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, where she taught cultural policy. She has also worked in the private sector as Brand Manager for Valextra at Saks Fifth Avenue, where she successfully launched and managed the Italian luxury company in the U.S.

Born in New York and raised in New Jersey, she holds a Master of Arts degree in European Cultural Policy and Administration from The University of Warwick (UK), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Administration and Theater from Goucher College (Maryland). While at Goucher, she spent a year at Leicester Polytechnic/De Montfort University (UK), and while in Argentina she pursued additional graduate studies in cultural policy at the University of Palermo School of Law in Buenos Aires.

She is a Young Associate of the Metropolitan Opera, a member of Carnegie Hall, and is active as a member of and volunteer for Women in Development. She is also an advisor to the HEC International Montreal Leadership Nouveau Annual Conference, and is involved in the Sarah Lawrence College Early Childhood Center PTA.
