Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company Gregory Doran said:

'We are so proud to win an amazing four Tony Awards and for all our Matildas to receive a Tony Honour for Excellence in the Theatre. It's an honour to be on Broadway and we want to pay tribute to the fantastic American cast and crew who have worked on the show since January and to the incredible response we have had from New York audiences.

The RSC's production of Matilda the Musical has come a long way since Liccy Dahl approached us in 2003 and asked us to bring Roald Dahl's story to life in the theatre. We've nurtured this very special show for almost a decade, thanks to public investment and philanthropic support, and it's great to share it with so many people. We have a great partnership with the Dodgers, an extraordinary creative team and fantastic executive producers, André Ptaszynski and Denise Wood, who have been joined by many, many others, all of whom have let their imagination and creativity run riot on this dark and wonderful tale about a little girl who uses her intelligence to stick up for what's right. Thank you to them all.
