According to The Hollywood Reporter, American Idol's season 9 runner-up Crystal Bowersox has been cast in the lead for Broadway's upcoming summer production of Always...Patsy Cline.

"I grew up listening to her music, as most of us have, and I feel a special connection to her," she told THR. "It's a tragic story and a great play and I'm really honored to be the one they chose to play Patsy."

Always...Patsy Cline is based on a true story about the friendship between Patsy and her most devoted fan, Louise Seger, which began when they met one night at the Esquire Ballroom outside of Houston.

Always...Patsy Cline includes many of Patsy's unforgettable hits, including "Crazy," "I Fall to Pieces," "Sweet Dreams" and "Walking After Midnight", featuring 27 songs in all. The show's title was inspired by Patsy's hand-written letters to Louise, which she signed "Love Always...Patsy Cline."

The musical has yet to announce a start date, Broadway theater, or further casting.

Bowersox's other acting credits include an episode of ABC's "Burden of Proof".
