ABC's SUPER FUN NIGHT Grows by Double-Digits Over Previous Week

During the week of December 9, 2013, ABC aired 3 of the Top 10 entertainment broadcasts in Adults 18-49, including the No. 1 drama with "Scandal's" Winter Finale: "Modern Family" - No. 2 (4-week high), "Scandal" - No. 6 (2-month high), "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 10 (7-week high).
Up year to year for the 2nd-straight week in Total Viewers (+10% - 5.6 million vs. 5.1 million), ABC increased its overall audience from the year-ago frame for the 3rd time in 4 weeks.

Monday
ABC was up over the same night last year (4.7 million and 1.1/3 on 12/10/12) in Total Viewers (+17%) and Adults 18-49 (+27%).

"Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 5.8 million and 1.6/5 in AD18-49):
During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's encore of "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" was up from its year-ago telecast (on 12/11/12) in Total Viewers (+4% - 5.8 million vs. 5.6 million).

"The Great Christmas Light Fight" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 5.5 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49):
ABC's debut of "The Great Christmas Light Fight" opened with strong year-to-year time-period improvement, boosting The Hour by 17% in Total Viewers (5.5 million vs. 4.7 million) and by 17% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.2/3) over an original "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on the same night last year. In fact, excluding New Year's Eve, it was ABC's best December performance in the time period in 5 years in Total Viewers and 3 years in Adults 18-49 - since 12/22/08 and 12/27/10, respectively.

"Castle" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.3 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49)
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "Castle" topped CBS' first-run "Hostages" in Total Viewers (5.3 million vs. 4.7 million). In addition, the ABC drama was up from its year-ago encore telecast with viewers (5.1 million on 12/10/12).

Tuesday
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (8:00-9:01 p.m. - 6.1 million and 2.1/6 in AD18-49):
Returning to original after the prior week's repeat, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." earned second place in the 8:00 p.m. hour to CBS' top-rated "NCIS" among Adults 18-49, while finishing as the No. 1 series in its time period with Men 18-34 for its 10th-consecutive first-run airing.

On the most recent week of L+7 data (w/o 11/18/13), "S.H.I.E.L.D." added 1.6 rating points to its L+SD total, outdelivering CBS' "NCIS" among Adults 18-49 (4.0 rating vs. 3.9 rating). In fact, on average in the Live + 7 Day ratings for original telecasts, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is Tuesday's No. 1 TV show this season in Adults 18-49 (4.8 rating), outdelivering NBC's "The Voice" by 4% (4.6 rating) and CBS' "NCIS" by 14% (4.2 rating).

On average, "S.H.I.E.L.D." has improved its time slot by 86% in Adults 18-49 over the comparable weeks last season, making it ABC's top-rated program in The Hour in 4 years - since the 2009-10 TV season.

"The Goldbergs" (9:01-9:31 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.6/4 in AD18-49):
In the 9:00 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "The Goldbergs" surged week to week in Adults 18-49 (+14%) to equal a 4-week high - since 11/12/13. In addition, the show rose 20% in Adults 18-34 to a 9-week high - since 10/8/13.

"The Goldbergs" improved its time period year to year, growing the half-hour by 50% in Total Viewers and 33% in Adults 18-49 over original comedy programming on the year-ago night ("Happy Endings" = 3.2 million and 1.2/3 on 12/11/12).

"Trophy Wife" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 3.5 million and 1.2/3 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Trophy Wife" was up week to week in Adults 18-49 (+9%) to match a 6-week high - since 10/29/13.

Like its lead-in, "Trophy Wife" improved its half-hour year to year, topping original comedy programming on the same night last year by 40% in Total Viewers and by 20% in Adults 18-49 ("B---- in Apt 23" = 2.5 million and 1.0/3 on 12/11/12).

Wednesday
ABC ranked as the No. 2 broadcaster on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (1.9/6), leading by double digits over NBC (+12% - 1.7/5) and FOX (+36% - 1.4/4).

ABC's "Modern Family" was Wednesday's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49 by 40% over CBS' "Survivor" (3.5/10 vs. 2.5/8), finishing as the night's highest-rated series on each original broadcast this season.

"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m. - 8.1 million and 2.0/6 in AD18-49):
Earning second place at 8:00 p.m., ahead of NBC's "Sing Off" and Fox's "The X-Factor," "The Middle" was up 9% week to week in Total Viewers (8.1 million vs. 7.4 million) and increased 11% over its year-ago telecast (7.3 million on 12/12/12). The ABC comedy grew by 5% week to week in Adults 18-49 (2.0/6 vs. 1.9/6).

"Back in the Game" (8:30-9:00 p.m. - 6.1 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
In the 8:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Back in the Game" grew over the prior week in Total Viewers (+20% - 6.1 million vs. 5.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+7% - 1.5/4 vs. 1.4/4).

"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m. - 10.6 million and 3.5/10 in AD18-49):
Spiking 133% over its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Modern Family" won its half-hour by 46% over runner-up CBS' "Criminal Minds" (3.5/10 vs. 2.4/7). The veteran ABC sitcom built week to week by 12% in Total Viewers (10.6 million vs. 9.5 million) and by 9% in Adults 18-49 (3.5/10 vs. 3.2/9) to 4-week highs on both measures - since 11/13/13.

"Super Fun Night" (9:31-10:00 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.8/5 in AD18-49):
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Super Fun Night" grew over the prior week by double digits, rising 13% in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.8 million) and 13% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 1.6/4).

"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 5.2 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Nashville" ranked No. 2 in Adults 18-49 (1.4/4-tie) against its broadcast competition and held the No. 1 position with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34 (tie).

On average, "Nashville" is ABC's biggest percentage gainer in TV playback this season, shooting up 71% in Adults 18-49 (+1.2 rating points) from L+SD to L+7.

Thursday
With its night of Winter Finales, ABC was up for the 2nd week on Thursday in Adults 18-49 (+10%) to deliver a 6-week high on the evening - since 10/31/13. In Adults 18-49, ABC's "Scandal" ranked as the No. 2 TV series of the night for its 5th-straight telecast, trailing only CBS' top-rated "The Big Bang Theory." In addition, "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy" once again finished as Thursday's Top 2 dramas with young adults.

The Net improved over the year-ago Thursday by 5% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 on 12/13/12).

"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.3 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" grew week to week in Total Viewers (+3%).

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 8.4 million and 2.7/7 in AD18-49):
More than tripling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+238%), ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" beat out its nearest regular competition in The Hour by 42% ("The Crazy Ones"/"Two and a Half Men" = 1.9/5).

"Grey's" surged by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+18%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%) to equal its best young-adult number in 7 weeks - since 10/24/13. In addition, the ABC drama topped its year-ago Winter Finale in Total Viewers (+2% - 8.2 million on 12/13/12).

"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 9.4 million and 3.2/9 in AD18-49):
Building on its "Grey's" lead-in by 19% at 10:00 p.m., ABC's "Scandal" beat its combined drama competition in The Hour by 10% in Adults 18-49 (3.2/9 vs. 2.9/9 for CBS' "Elementary" and NBC's "Parenthood").

Growing week to week in Total Viewers (+13%) and up for the 2nd week in Adults 18-49 (+7%), "Scandal" earned 2-month highs on both measures - since 10/17/13. In addition the show scored its 2nd-highest-ever Adult 18-34 rating.

"Scandal" spiked over its year-ago Winter Finale (7.1 million and 2.4/7 on 12/13/12) in Total Viewers (+32%) and Adults 18-49 (+33%). On average, "Scandal" has shot up 63% over the same point last year in Adults 18-49, making it TV's fastest-growing returning series this season and ABC's highest-rated show in the time slot since "Lost" during the 2007-08 season.

Season to date in the C3 Adult 18-49 ratings, ABC's "Scandal" (3.56 rating) leads NBC's "Blacklist" (3.55 rating) as the season's No. 1 broadcast drama in the key advertiser measure.

Social Stats: "Scandal" was Thursday's No. 1 most social TV program (on broadcast and cable, including sports) with 420,650 tweets, rising 6% week to week to stand as its 2nd-highest number this season, behind only the season premiere. With a total of 3.4 million tweets season to date, "Scandal" is ABC's most social series.

Friday
ABC ranked No. 1 on Friday for the 2nd week in a row among Adults 18-49 (1.5/5). The Net's "Shark Tank" continued to rank as Friday's No. 1 TV program in Adults 18-49. In fact, including last night, "Shark Tank" has delivered TV's Top 8 Friday telecasts this season in Adults 18-49.

"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m. - 6.3 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
In the 8:00 p.m. half-hour, "Last Man Standing" ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (tied with CBS' "Undercover Boss").

"The Neighbors" (8:31-9:00 p.m. - 4.1 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):
At 8:30 p.m., "The Neighbors" held steady week to week in Adults 18-49.

"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 7.1 million and 2.0/7 in AD18-49):
More than doubling its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (+122%), ABC's "Shark Tank" equaled a season-high and dominated the 9 o'clock hour by 52% over its nearest competition (2.0/7 vs. 1.3/4 - NBC's "Grimm"). Season to date, "Shark Tank" is up 19% in Adults 18-49 over the same point last year to the series' best performance ever.

"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 5.9 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
Winning the 10 o'clock hour over CBS' "Blue Bloods" and the second hour of NBC's "Grimm" finale and finishing as Friday's No. 1 newsmagazine, ABC's "20/20" outdelivered NBC's "Dateline" (8:00-9:00 p.m.) on the night by double digits in Adults 18-49 (+27% - 1.4/5 vs. 1.1/4) and Adults 25-54 (+18% - 2.0/6 vs. 1.7/5). The ABC newsmag reported on a family accused of bank robbery. "20/20" spiked week to week in Total Viewers (+18%), Adults 18-49 (+27%) and Adults 25-54 (+25%).

Sunday
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 6.4 million and 1.9/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m. against strong NFL-fueled competition on NBC and FOX and CBS' "Survivor" finale, ABC's Winter Finale of "Once Upon a Time" built on its lead-in by 36% in Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 vs. 1.4/4). The ABC drama continued its run as Sunday's most-social series on broadcast with 79,437 tweets, up 75% week to week to its 2nd-best number this season.

With increased playback viewing, "Once Upon a Time" is seeing much bigger percentage gains this season from L+SD to L+7 than the same point last season in Adults 18-49 (+59% vs. +42%). On average, based on first-run telecasts in Nielsen's Live + 7 Day ratings, "Once Upon a Time's" Fall 2013 performance was up 6% in Adults 18-49 over its Spring 2013 delivery (3.5/9 vs. 3.3/9).

"Revenge" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 6.2 million and 1.5/4 in AD18-49):
During the 9 o'clock hour, ABC's "Revenge" built its overall audience for its 3rd-straight telecast (+3%) to draw its biggest overall audience in 6 weeks - since 11/3/13. Holding 97% of its Total Viewer lead-in, "Revenge" delivered its best-ever retention out of "Once Upon a Time."

"Betrayal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.6 million and 0.8/2 in AD18-49):
In the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Betrayal" rose by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+16%) and in Adults 18-49 (+14%), marking its most-watched telecast in 10 weeks - since 10/6/13.
