An updated production of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera classic The Mikado will return to play 12 performances at the English National Opera from February 3rd through March 3rd.

"ENO's joyous interpretation of The Mikado is revived in its 20th anniversary year, complete with high-kicking chorus lines, satirical touches and a wonderfully elegant score. Jonathan Miller's widely-acclaimed production of Gilbert & Sullivan's 'Japanese' satire sets the story in a 1930s English hotel – the perfect place for lampooning targets much closer to home. Evoking memories of the Marx Brothers' classic A Night at the Opera with its sparkling wit, familiar tunes and colourful characters, ENO's The Mikado features stunning sets, fabulous costumes and hilarious, Busby Berkeley-style choreography," according to press notes.

Simon Lee is the conductor of the revival, following his ENO début in the company's hit production of On the Town. The show will once again be directed by David Rich with set design by Stefanos Lazardis, costumes by Sue Blane, choreography by Antony Van Laast, and lighting by Paul Taylor (from the original design of Davy Cunningham).

Richard Stuart will return as Ko-Ko with Richard Angas in the title role. They will be joined by Ian Caddy, who also returns as Pooh-Bah and Felicity Palmer as Katisha recreating the role she sang in the original staging. The role of Nanki-Poo will be sung by Keith Jameson, who makes his ENO début.

The 'Three Little Maids' will be ENO Young Singers Sarah Tynan as Yum-Yum, Anne Marie Gibbons as Pitti-Sing and Fiona Canfield as Peep-Bo. The cast will be completed by ENO Young Singer Toby Stafford-Allen as Pish Tush.
The Mikado is a co-production with Houston Grand Opera and Los Angeles Music Center Opera.

The show will play performances starting at 7:30pm (unless otherwise stated): February 3, 4 (2.30pm & 7.30pm), 7, 10, 16, 18 (2.30pm & 7.30pm), 24, 25 (6.30pm), 28 and March 3 at 7.30pm. Tickets are from £10.00. Call 0870 145 0200 or visit www.eno.org/mikado.

The English National Opera is located at London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane, Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 4ES.
