A legendary Stephen Sondheim achievement, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (music and lyrics by Sondheim, book by Hugh Wheeler) drew inspiration from the bittersweet 1955 Ingmar Bergman film “Smiles of a Summer Night." The plot examines several couples in the eartly 1900's who meet, find, love and change partners over one sweet Swedish summer weekend in the country. The lovely score and lyrics sound the wistfulness and loss of love, including "Send In the Clowns." By the weekend's end, lives have changed.
A smash hit since 1971, "A Little Night Music" contains scenes includes adult romantic relationships, implied gun violence, adult language, smoking, and staged intimacy. Patrons are advised about the content.
Opening at the New Mexico Actor's Lab and running through Saturday, March 23 (avoiding Easter Sunday 3/24), tickets are $30-$50 with student discounts as shown on the web site.
