Ron Howard took the stage at Cannes Lions on Friday for an interview with the WPP Founder, Martin Sorrell.

During the presentation, the Hollywood legend discussed his upcoming project directing the new Disney spinoff of the Star Wars character, Han Solo.

Howard describes the film as "a little opportunity that came my way", having taken the reigns on the film following the departure of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who cited "creative differences" with the studio.

Howard added: "It's gratifying to lend my voice to the Star Wars universe now."

"I've been around the Star Wars universe from the beginning," the Academy Award winner explained. During the production of the classic film American Grafitti, Lucas was also creating the story for Star Wars. Howard admits he thought the idea sounded "crazy" when he first heard about it.

Howard recalled seeing the film twice in one day during its original release. "We left almost speechless, and I said [to his wife], 'Do you want to see it again?' And we got in line and waited another 90 minutes to see it twice the same day."
