Based on a story by Giles Fernando and Josh Bird
On the anniversary of Keir Starmer’s “Islands of Strangers” speech, a bold new voice takes the stage.
Meet Ash: mixed-heritage, London-raised, and halfway through medical training when racism pushes him toward an unexpected prescription: comedy. What begins as a defence mechanism becomes a calling. From the euphoric optimism of the London 2012 Olympic Games to the political crossfire of 2025, Ash battles hecklers, culture warriors and his own doubts, caught between the extremes of left and right, to tell an honest, heartwarming and funny story of identity: The Full English. As friendships fracture and his career implodes, he is forced to confront the labels—both affectionate and weaponised—that shape his life.
The Full English is a razor-sharp, mash-up of stand-up and theatre that asks a deceptively simple question: what does it mean to be “English” now? In a post-Brexit nation still arguing with itself, Ash slices through slogans and soundbites with wit, warmth and unflinching honesty.
Funny, provocative and ultimately cathartic, The Full English deconstructs British identity with disarming charm. It doesn’t preach; it probes. It doesn’t cancel; it questions. And in doing so, it invites audiences not only to examine the words they use, but also to find the cultural similarities in all of us.
One mic. One night. One nation in the spotlight.
