Right what the flaming hell is going on in OZ ?
The munchkins are not going to be small... they are going to be "different" what does that mean exactly ?...... this makes me think Big BIG changes are afoot ! Why can't they just leave it. If its not broken don't fix ..... The public are expecting the film on stage !

To be fair, in the book, the munchkins were only slightly shorted than dorothy and the same size as the rest of oz.

ALW did say the new London production would be taking elements from the movie AND the book

Its a good thing- it means we wont have a children's chorus playing the Munchkins as in so many productions of The Wizard of Oz!

Bring it on.

Is it true that ALW and Time Rice are working together on the new songs?

I dont know which would irritate more on stage, a bunch of kids pretending to be munchkins or a bunch of 'little people' squalking away, so I'm fine with the 'normal' size people, im sure they will just dress them like they do in wicked or lord of the rings to make them look out of proportion

-------------------------------------------------------

---Just curious, if Wizard of OZ purists think that whatever ALW does with the show is somehow wrong and offensive, do you think they will they just ignore it---or "get after" ALW as the Phantom purists have done because of Love Never Dies?

Wicked gets away with Boq by saying he's unusually tall for a Munchkin.

But that contradicts itself because in the book Elphaba and Nessa are infact munchkins. Unless in the stage version they are trying to imply that the Governorship of Munchkinland is held by outsiders.

ALW is at it again...note how the bastard positions his billing:

ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S (in HUGE letters)

new production (in small letters)

THE WIZARD OF OZ (same size as ALW's name)

Nowhere does it state the songs are by Arlen and Harburg! He is trying to imply that this is HIS show. Well it is NOT! Even if he does write a few new songs. Unless he is prepared to write an entirely original score he has no business trying to claim this show all to himself.

He tried to pull this same crap when he opened SOUND OF MUSIC in Toronto.

Where does this untalented scumbag get off trying top pull crap like this? And why are we letting him get away with it??

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Does anyone have an idea when full casting (or at least some more) will be announced?

I don't get the big deal if ALW changes the munchkins height, it's his production, if you dont want to see it, just re-watch the film.

And btw frontrow, his name is MUCH smaller than the title. It states clearly that it's his PRODUCTION, not his show, production. And anyway ALW plans to write new songs (I'm guessing with Tim Rice ^^) and rewrite most of the book so, partly it would be his adaptation of the original novel. Just with some of the film's songs.

Oh and btw, I think Boq's family "married" into height :)

Excited after reading this! Seems they are really working to turn it into a really effective stage musical.

An Opening number, Big Act two opener for the Witch, 11 o clock number for Glinda. I'm assuming the Jitterbug will also be present? And then i'm guessing the other two songs will be for Dorothy and the Wizard.

I'm slightly slower than a few of you so, can someone give me an example of an 11 O'Clock number from a different musical, please?
