Catch Me If You Can, the new musical by Tony Award winners Scott Wittman, Marc Shaiman and Terrence McNally, will begin Broadway previews March 7, 2011, at a Nederlander theatre to be announced.

Hairspray songwriters Shaiman and Wittman penned the score to the musical based on the DreamWorks film of the same name (and the autobiography by Frank Abagnale Jr. and Stan Redding). Catch Me If You Can will officially open April 10, 2011.

In addition to Shaiman and Wittman, the musical will reunite several Broadway heavyweights who collaborated on the Tony-winning hit Hairspray, including director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. Catch Me If You Can features a book by Tony Award-winning playwright McNally (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Ragtime, Master Class).

I'm not a fan of Shaiman and Whitman, nor am I a fan of Jack O'Brien (hated both shows I've seen that were directed by him). But I am a massive fan of Terrence McNally. So any book penned by him will draw me to seeing the show. That and the presence of Aaron Tveit will put this on my list of shows to see next year in NYC.

I really like the show from what I've heard from the demos and then the special cast recording done for the Seattle run. It had changed a lot from demo to stage and I'm sure it will change yet again before New York.
One for my list!

2 years is so not long for a new show to develop, i think they have played smart with this one.

I'm more excited by Women on the Verge- that looks crazier than a peach-orchard sow!

Women on the Verge excites me as well. As long as it keeps the Almodavar wit, It could be a smash.
