The subject of Disney doing another stage musical has been brought up on a separate thread in recent days.

Well, here goes!

Disney Theatricals are contemplating a Broadway musical of their 1941 blockbuster 'Dumbo'!
Yes, 'Dumbo'!

The first thing I thought was how would they make a full blown, 2hr 30min Broadway musical out of one of the shortest 'feature length cartoons' they have ever made at just 64mins!?!?

Plans are at very early stages but at the moment Stephen Daldry has shown an interest to direct the production.

LOVE Disney, but this is a very odd choice!

They have Hunchback which is so perfect for the stage and has already been done in Germany, and yet they are opting for a 70 minute film that would have to be severly fleshed out

If 'Temper Temper' was too much for kids, I can only imagine how many of them will run screaming from the drunken pink elephant number.

i think bedknobs and broomsticks would be a much better choice personally.

Latest news is that Daldry seems upset about the leaked announcement and has now left negotiations.

I'd have thought BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS way too similar to MARY POPPINS for adaption. Well, they obviously think they can do something with DUMBO. But who would play DUMBO?

can't they do Hercules next? I'd love that! Plus Susan Egan is still young enough to pull Meg off :) x
