Sion Daniel Young, Rebecca Lacey & More Will Join West End's THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME

The National Theatre's acclaimed production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will welcome a new company next month with Sion Daniel Young joining the cast to play the lead role of Christopher Boone. Based on Mark Haddon's award-winning novel and adapted by Simon Stephens, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is currently booking in the West End until 24 October 2015. Rehearsals began today with the new Company who will begin performances at the Gielgud Theatre on 22 June 2015.

Rebecca Lacey will play Siobhan with Nicholas Tennant continuing as Ed, Mary Stockley as Judy, Jacqueline Clarke as Mrs Alexander, Indra Ove as Mrs Shears, Stephen Beckett as Roger Shears, Matthew Trevannion as Mr Thompson, Pearl Mackie as No. 40/Punk Girl, Sean Mckenzie as Reverend Peters and Kaffe Keating will play alternate Christopher. They are joined by Mark Rawlings and Penelope McGhie who continue with the company and Naomi Said and Simon Victor.

Christopher, fifteen years old, stands besides Mrs Shears' dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in a book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. He has an extraordinary brain, and is exceptional at maths while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and distrusts strangers. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

Sion Daniel Young (Christopher) has recently played the role of Albert in the National Theatre's other current West End transfer, War Horse. Before then his theatre credits included The Welsh Boy for Theatre Royal Bath and The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning and House of America for the National Theatre of Wales. Most recently on stage he was seen as Siegfried Sassoon in Mamtez also for the National Theatre of Wales. On television his credits include Our World War, Casualty and Tissues and Issues for the BBC and Hotel Eddie for S4C. His film credits are Another Me, Private Peaceful and Daisy Chain.

Director Marianne Elliott's acclaimed production, which has now been seen by nearly one million people in the UK and New York, is the recipient of seven Olivier Awards, including Best New Play and last month received 20 US theatre award nominations including 6 nominations at the 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Play. Last night The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was the winner of 5 Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Play.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time can also be seen on tour in the UK and Ireland until November 2015 and continues to play to packed houses at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway. It was announced last week that the play will also embark on a US National Tour from October 2016.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is designed by Bunny Christie, with lighting by Paule Constable, video design by Finn Ross, movement by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett for Frantic Assembly, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time opened at the National's Cottesloe Theatre in August 2012. Following the sell-out run at the NT the production transferred to the Apollo Theatre in March 2013, and has been playing at the Gielgud Theatre since June 2014.
