Simon Paisley Day joins Richard Fleeshman and Jenna Russell in the cast of Urinetown, opening at St James Theatre this spring.

Simon Paisley Day's notable credits include BBC's Sherlock & the brand new series Musketeers, the National's Twelfth Night, The Low Road at the Royal Court and The Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare's Globe. He will be play Caldwell B. Cladwell, completing the cast in the multi Tony Award winning show, directed by Jamie Lloyd (The Commitments, Macbeth, The Hothouse, The Pride) at the St James Theatre.

Simon joins the previously announced Chris Bennett (Swing), Katie Bernstein (Little Becky Two Shoes/Mrs. Millennium), Alasdair Buchan (Swing), Marc Elliott (Mr. McQueen), Cory English (Old Man Strong/Hot Blades Harry), Richard Fleeshman (Bobby Strong), Madeleine Harland (Soupy Sue/Cladwell's Secretary), Rosanna Hyland (Hope Cladwell), Karis Jack (Little Sally), Julie Jupp (Old Woman/Josephine Strong), Aaron Lee Lambert (Billy Boy Bill/UGC Executive), Mark Meadows(Senator Fipp), Joel Montague (Swing), Jo Napthine (Swing), Jeff Nicholson (Tiny Tom/Dr. Billeaux),Adam Pearce (Officer Barrel), Jenna Russell (Penelope Pennywise), Charlotte Scott (Swing), Matthew Seadon-Young (Robbie The Stockfish/UGC Executive) and Jonathan Slinger (Officer Lockstock).

URINETOWN The Musical, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis,runs at the St James Theatre from 22 February until 3 May 2014, with opening night on 11 March 2014.

URINETOWN The Musical is produced by Julian Stoneman Associates and The Araca Group with production design by Evening Standard award winner, Soutra Gilmour, choreography by Ann Yee, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Terry Jardine & Nick Lidster, orchestrations byBruce Coughlin, wig & hair design by Richard Mawbey, fight direction by Kate Waters, video and projection designed by Leo Warner and musical supervision & direction by Alan Williams.

URINETOWN The Musical ran on Broadway to great acclaim from 2001 until 2004 and was nominated for ten Tony Awards, and won for Best Book, Best Score and Best Direction. In addition, it also won three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, two Obie Awards and the Drama League Award for Best Musical.

In a city of the future that has been inflicted with a terrible drought, business tycoon Caldwell B. Cladwell has made his fortune through bribery and the monopolisation of all public toilets. With a brutal police force maintaining law and order, it's not a place to get caught short! Risk it and you will be sent off to a place no one returns from - the infamous Urinetown.

The city needs a revolution and every revolution needs a hero... however unlikely.

A tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution set in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. This hilarious musical comedy hits London in 2014.

Simon Paisley Day has worked extensively at the National Theatre including; Twelfth Night, Anything Goes, Love's Labour's Lost, Coast Of Utopia, Albert Speer, Hamlet, Candide, Troilus and Cressida, Money and Oh What a Lovely War! Simon's other stage credits include The Low Road and The Ugly One both at the Royal Court, The Taming of the Shrew and Timon of Athens both at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Private Lives at the Music Box Theatre, New York & The Vaudeville, London,Entertaining Mr. Sloane at Trafalgar Studios, The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre, Don't Look Now at the Lyric Hammersmith, The Philanthropist at the Donmar Warehouse, Cymbeline and Twelfth Nightat Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, By Jeeves! at Scarborough and The Duke of York's Theatre and A Woman of No Importance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Most recently he wrote the comedy Raving, which was directed by Edward Hall and enjoyed a sell-out run at Hampstead Theatre. Simon's screen credits include Sherlock, Doctor Who, Musketeers, Titanic, Spartacus, Midsomer Murders, Queen and Country, The Untitled Cycling Project, Madame Bovary and The Falling.

Jamie Lloyd recently created Jamie Lloyd Productions, a production venture with Ambassador Theatre Group. With this company, he has recently presented a season of work as Artistic Director of Trafalgar Transformed, Trafalgar Studios: The Pride, The Hothouse, Macbeth (Olivier nomination for Best Revival). Other theatre credits include: Cyrano de Bergerac(Roundabout Theatre Company; American Airlines Theatre, Broadway); The Duchess of Malfi (Old Vic); She Stoops to Conquer (National, Olivier; Whatsonstage nomination for Best Revival); The Faith Machine, The Pride (Royal Court; Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre for The Pride), Inadmissible Evidence, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Passion, Polar Bears (Donmar; Evening Standard Award for Best Musical for Passion), Piaf(Donmar, also Vaudeville/Teatro Liceo, Buenos Aires/Nuevo Teatro Alcala, Madrid; Olivier nomination for Best Musical Revival, Hugo Award for Best Director, Clarin Award for Best Musical Production, ADEET Award for Best Production); The Little Dog Laughed (Garrick), Three Days of Rain (Apollo; Olivier nomination for Best Revival, Whatsonstage nomination for Best Revival), The Lover and The Collection (Comedy) and Elegies: a Song Cycle (Arts) in the West End; The School for Scandal (Theatre Royal, Bath); Salome (Headlong); Eric's (Liverpool Everyman) and The Caretaker (Sheffield Crucible and Tricycle). Jamie has also directed plays as a part of the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays and the Royal Court International Residencies. Jamie was Associate Director of the Donmar from 2008 to 2011 and Associate Artist of Headlong. Jamie is currently directing The Commitments, running at the Palace Theatre.
