Simon Paisley Day Completes Cast Of URINETOWN At St James

Simon Paisley Day joins Richard Fleeshman and Jenna Russell in the cast of Urinetown, opening at St James Theatre this spring.

Simon Paisley Day's notable credits include BBC's Sherlock & the brand new series Musketeers, the National's Twelfth Night, The Low Road at the Royal Court and The Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare's Globe. He will be play Caldwell B. Cladwell, completing the cast in the multi Tony Award winning show, directed by Jamie Lloyd (The Commitments, Macbeth, The Hothouse, The Pride) at the St James Theatre.

URINETOWN The Musical, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis,runs at the St James Theatre from 22 February until 3 May 2014, with opening night on 11 March 2014.

URINETOWN The Musical is produced by Julian Stoneman Associates and The Araca Group with production design by Evening Standard award winner, Soutra Gilmour, choreography by Ann Yee, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Terry Jardine & Nick Lidster, orchestrations byBruce Coughlin, wig & hair design by Richard Mawbey, fight direction by Kate Waters, video and projection designed by Leo Warner and musical supervision & direction by Alan Williams.

URINETOWN The Musical ran on Broadway to great acclaim from 2001 until 2004 and was nominated for ten Tony Awards, and won for Best Book, Best Score and Best Direction. In addition, it also won three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, two Obie Awards and the Drama League Award for Best Musical.

In a city of the future that has been inflicted with a terrible drought, business tycoon Caldwell B. Cladwell has made his fortune through bribery and the monopolisation of all public toilets. With a brutal police force maintaining law and order, it's not a place to get caught short! Risk it and you will be sent off to a place no one returns from - the infamous Urinetown.

Simon's other stage credits include The Low Road and The Ugly One both at the Royal Court, The Taming of the Shrew and Timon of Athens both at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Private Lives at the Music Box Theatre, New York & The Vaudeville, London,Entertaining Mr. Sloane at Trafalgar Studios, The 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre, Don't Look Now at the Lyric Hammersmith, The Philanthropist at the Donmar Warehouse, Cymbeline and Twelfth Nightat Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, By Jeeves! at Scarborough and The Duke of York's Theatre and A Woman of No Importance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Most recently he wrote the comedy Raving, which was directed by Edward Hall and enjoyed a sell-out run at Hampstead Theatre. Simon's screen credits include Sherlock, Doctor Who, Musketeers, Titanic, Spartacus, Midsomer Murders, Queen and Country, The Untitled Cycling Project, Madame Bovary and The Falling.

Jamie Lloyd recently created Jamie Lloyd Productions, a production venture with Ambassador Theatre Group. With this company, he has recently presented a season of work as Artistic Director of Trafalgar Transformed, Trafalgar Studios: The Pride, The Hothouse, Macbeth (Olivier nomination for Best Revival).
