Upcoming SNOWDEN star Rhys Ifans is the latest to sign on for the Old Vic's KING LEAR.

According to the Daily Mail, the actor will play the Fool in the company's gender-blind production, which stars 79-year-old politician and Oscar-winning actress Glenda Jackson in the title role.

As previously reported, HARRY POTTER and HAND TO GOD star Harry Melling will appear as 'Edgar' in the Deborah Warner-helmed Shakespeare play. Previews are currently scheduled to begin 25 October.

Ifans last worked with the Old Vic's Artistic Director Matthew Warchus in VOLPONE at the National. The actor has also taken the stage at the Donmar and Regent's Park.

His career took off after appearing in the Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant romantic comedy NOTTING HILL; he has since appeared on the big screen as 'Xenophilius Lovegood' in HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, as 'Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard' in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, 'Edward de Vere' in ANONYMOUS, and recurs on the TV series ELEMENTARY and BERLIN STATION. In the queue are big screen projects DOMINION, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and SNOWDEN.
