Rose Theatre Announces Their Autumn 2010

The Rose Theatre kick starts the autumn season with Our Town: a community play, celebrating the past, present and future of Kingston. This is followed by the ninth Rose Theatre production, Hay Fever starring Celia Imrie. There is also a variety of highly acclaimed touring theatre including Northern Broadside's 1984 and Filter's Twelfth Night, presented in association with the RSC. In December, the Rose will co-produce its first musical, The Three Musketeers.

1 - 5 September
ROOM ON THE BROOM

Back at the Rose by popular demand! A spellbinding adventure from the creators of the international hit stage show The Gruffalo. The perfect way to end the summer holidays for everyone aged three and over.

The witch and her cat are flying happily along on their broomstick - until a mighty wind blasts her hat, bow and wand away into the night! For ages 3+

9 - 12 September
The Rose Community Play
OUR TOWN: A KINGSTON STORY
A celebration of the past, present and future of Kingston.

Kings have been crowned, battles have been fought and ordinary people have gone about their business. Brace yourself for an epic sweep through the history that makes Kingston the community that it is today.

Playwright Ciaran McConville and director Jamie Harper are working with a large company of local actors over the summer to create this new play, with people's individual memories forming an integral part of the story.

Full of song, dance and the spoken word, Our Town promises to be a unique spectacle for our distinctive theatre.

Noël Coward (1899-1973) was born in Teddington, and wrote some of the greatest plays of the twentieth century. Famous for its outrageous and eccentric characters, and the speed, precision and polish of the language, Hay Fever (1924) is Coward at his finest.

When four guests arrive at a country house by the Thames, they expect a civilised weekend of polite conversation and illicit love affairs. But the famous actress Judith Bliss, her novelist husband and their two grown-up children are eccentric bohemians and, as confusion mounts, their unwitting guests are desperate to flee.

Olivier award-winning actress and comedienne, Celia Imrie has starred in Acorn Antiques, Calendar Girls, Dinnerladies and Bridget Jones' Diary.

The Rose Theatre joins forces with Broadway producer Bud Martin to present The Three Musketeers, a brand new musical adapted from the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas. The Three Musketeers will play at the Rose prior to the West End.

With dreams of joining his childhood idols, the Musketeers, D'Artagnan arrives in Paris, a city seething with deadly secrets, romance and danger.

Despite their reputation, time has not been kind to the legendary Athos, Porthos and Aramis, and they are no longer the heroes they once were. As he battles to distinguish friend from foe, D'Artagnan finds that his greatest test may be the battle for the heart of the one he loves.

Energetic and physical, this new production of The Three Musketeers features an original score by George Stiles (Mary Poppins, Honk), lyrics by Paul Leigh and book by Peter Raby with Francis Matthews. Original concept by William Hobbs. Suitable for ages 10+

DAVID WOOD'S STORYTIME

Teachers go free! Recommended for ages 4+, parental guidance. Running time 55 minutes.

For younger children with family or school groups, we have a Christmas storytelling show from the grand master of children's writing, David Wood OBE.

Combining storytelling with magic, music and audience participation, David, ‘the national children's dramatist' (The Times), will re-enact his world-famous play, book and TV series The Gingerbread Man. The show also features A Present for Father Christmas and Funny Bunny's Magic Show. Tickets £6.50
