Photo Flash: THE 39 STEPS Third Birthday Party

With Bette Davis and Marilyn Monroe adding Hollywood glamour, and a host of UK comedy stars joining in the fun, The 39 Steps celebrated its third birthday at Franco's in the West End's Jermyn Street last night.

The 39 Steps is officially London's funniest stage comedy - winner of several coveted awards, including the Best New Comedy Olivier Award, the Whatsonstage Best New Comedy award and two Tonys.

It has played more than 1,000 hilarious performances in the West End and has now had productions in 39 cities round the globe and will open in Tokyo in January 2010.

Author Patrick Barlow, who adapted John Buchan's spy novel, and included every legendary scene from Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 classic film thriller, was joined by the new cast of the show - four hard working actors who play 139 roles between them.

Alfred Hitchcock failed to make one of his customary guest apperarances but Hollywood was represented by Bette Davis (Earl Grey) and Marilyn Monroe (Vanity Faire).

Others toasting the play's success included: comedians Scott Capurro, Stephen K Amos, Lizzie Roper, Wendy Wason, Milton Johns, Ava Vidal, Edinburgh sensations Frisky & Mannish, Barry Cryer, Fascinating Aida's Adele Anderson, TV presenter Jenni Falconer, astrologer Shelley Von Strunkle, BBC London's Vanessa Feltz, burlesque star Miss Polly Rae, Eat the Rich's Al Pillay, and commentator Simon Fanshawe.
