Following a sold out run at the Edinburgh Festival and a series of international shows culminating in a recent sell-out success at the infamous Magic Castle in LA, Guy Hollingworth performs his acclaimed one man show, The Expert at the Card Table at the Menier Chocolate Factory for three exclusive performances on Thursday 02, Friday 03 and Saturday 04 April at 8pm. The Expert at the Card Table is directed by legendary TV actor Neil Patrick Harris, known to millions for his role as Doogie Howser.

Guy Hollingworth has just won the Magician of the Year Award 2008 from the Academy of Magical Arts (previous winners include David Blaine, Derren Brown and Paul Daniels). In this one man show he performs dazzling exhibitions of card chicanery alongside a compelling story of trickery, deceit and death. Based on the book of the same name, The Expert at the Card Table tells the story of two boys whose innocent love of card tricks develops in adulthood into a dangerous game of hustles, street cons and murder. Published anonymously in Chicago in 1902, the book describes in great detail, original and brilliant methods for conjuring effects, whilst at the same time revealing the author's true intent, a full exposé of the underground techniques used by hustlers, card cheats and con artists.

Guy Hollingworth is an acknowledged expert of sleight of hand and card technique and has written a best-selling book, Drawing Room Deceptions, which contains his best known trick, The Reformation. This is where a playing card is torn into quarters and then restored piece by piece, in front of the audience's eyes. Guy's television appearances include The World's Greatest Magic in the USA, The Five Greatest Magicians in the World in Japan, and Britain's Worst Cheats, Heroes of Magic and The Fifty Greatest Magic Tricks in England. He has also acted as a consultant for a number of television shows and films including Derren Brown's Trick or Treat and Road to Perdition in which he taught sleight of hand to Jude Law.

The Expert at the Card Table marks Neil Patrick Harris' UK directorial debut. The Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actor, known to millions for his role as Doogie Howser MD, is currently playing the role of Barney Stinson in the acclaimed American sitcom How I Met Your Mother. His film work includes Clara's Heart, The Next Best Thing, Starship Troopers and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. His theatre work includes Arthur Miller's All My Sons at the Geffen Playhouse, Tony Award-winning musical Assassins, Cabaret and Proof, as well as Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick...Boom at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Under the direction of Artistic Director David Babani, and having recently celebrating its fifth birthday, the Menier Chocolate Factory, as well as producing in SE1 at its home theatre, has transferred six productions to the West End - Fully Committed, Sunday in the Park with George, Little Shop of Horrors, Dealer's Choice and, most recently, Maria Friedman Re-Arranged and La Cage aux Folles, which is currently playing at the Playhouse Theatre. Its seventh production to transfer to the West End is Trevor Nunn's production of A Little Night Music which will open at the Garrick Theatre on 28 March 2009. In April, the Menier Chocolate Factory will have five productions playing worldwide: Rookery Nook at the Menier, A Little Night Music and La Cage aux Folles in the West End, Little Shop of Horrors on tour in the UK and Sunday in the Park with George at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle.
