BEAUTIFUL and MAMMA MIA! cancelled both shows today while CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY has cancelled its evening show.

All other West End shows - including Gypsy, which is using an emergency power generator - are scheduled to go ahead this evening after a handful were forced to cancel performances yesterday.

This was due to a fire underground in nearby Kingsway, which caused electrical blackouts and evacuations around the Strand area.

The Lion King started its matinee half an hour later than usual - 3pm - but now expects performances to resume as usual.

If you hold tickets for tomorrow, you are advised to check with the venue and on the show's social media before travelling.

Beautiful, Mamma Mia!, Gypsy, The Lion King and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were all dark in the evening yesterday, as were plays The Play That Goes Wrong and The Woman in Black.

Latest reports suggest that the fire continues to burn underground and it will be some time before it is fully extinguished.
