Darden Purcell, vocals
Jim Carroll, Conductor
Celebrate Veterans Day week with Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra’s “Salute to the Military.” Vocalist Darden Purcell, Mason Director of Jazz Studies and Jazz Voice, joins Artistic Director and virtuoso saxophonist Jim Carroll and his Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra for an unforgettable evening of jazz standards celebrating our Military’s Veterans, Servicemembers, and their families. The evening will feature music from the Jazz Age and eras of World War I and World War II. Highlights include a medley of songs from the Andrews Sisters, such as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” as well as iconic hits like “Sentimental Journey.” Founded by Carroll, the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra comprises the finest jazz performers in the metro region and is always a treat for our audiences.
Free for Veterans and Servicemembers with ID (up to 2 tickets each) can be claimed in-person at the Hylton Center Ticket Office.
George Mason University’s Veterans and the Arts Initiative is a proud sponsor of this performance, providing free tickets for Veterans and Servicemembers.
