Joe Hisaishi brings his Concerto for Orchestra to the Colorado Symphony in October 2026, conducted by the composer himself. Written in five movements and running approximately 45 minutes, the work follows a form associated with composers such as Béla Bartók, Witold Lutosławski, and Zoltán Kodály, placing the orchestra at the center of expression. The piece features driving rhythmic textures in its outer movements and lyrical solo passages in the inner movements, with the finale drawing these elements together. Co-commissioned by an international consortium that includes the Colorado Symphony, the work marks Hisaishi's first composition under contract with Boosey & Hawkes.
