World Premiere of GEORGIE Added to Signature Theatre's Season

By:

In a special limited engagement, Signature Theatre presents the world premiere production of Georgie: The Life and Death of George Rose written and performed by Broadway veteran Ed Dixon (Broadway's Anything Goes, Signature's Sunset Boulevard). Directed by Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Follies, and Million Dollar Quartet), this one-man play chronicles Dixon's relationship with his friend and mentor, the Tony-award winning character actor George Rose (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, My Fair Lady, Pirates of Penzance). Georgie: The Life and Death of George Rose will play in Signature's ARK Theatre from January 8 - February 7, 2016.

"I am so excited to be debuting Georgie: The Life and Death of George Rose at Signature, a theater I know and love, shepherded by Eric Schaeffer, a director I know and love," said Ed Dixon. "And all the more so because Georgie is the show that's nearest and dearest to my heart, concerning, as it does, the amazing life and shocking death of my lifelong friend and mentor."

"Ed Dixon is an artist that I've admired over the years and have had the opportunity to work with on numerous occasions including his Helen Hayes award-winning performance as Max in Sunset Boulevard," said Schaeffer. "What he has created with Georgie is a wonderfully human tale about the survival of an artist, a personal connection of stories to a unique individual and a shocking death. Ed is a character actor of countless dimensions and his portrayal and friendship to George Rose is personal, intimate and revealing in a unique theatrical way. I'm thrilled to collaborate with Ed on this world premiere."

It's all about the story, George Rose would instruct fellow actor Ed Dixon over the course of their 20 year friendship. And boy, did Georgie have quite a story. A bon-vivant with a flair for the dramatic and the eccentric, Rose starred on Broadway and London stages alongside luminaries like Katherine Hepburn, Noel Coward, Dame Edith Evans, Richard Burton and Laurence Olivier in a storied career that met an ignoble end.

A developmental workshop of Georgie: The Life and Death of George Rose was presented at The Sharon Playhouse in Connecticut in May 2015.

Performances run Tuesday through Saturday evenings, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets start at $25 during previews and thereafter are $45 and are available in person at the Signature Box Office at 4200 Campbell Avenue in Shirlington, by calling the Signature Theatre Box Office (703) 820-9771 and online at www.sigtheatre.org.

This production's Pride performance is scheduled for January 8, 2016.
