VIDEO: Take a First Look at SOVEREIGNTY at Arena Stage

The World-Premiere of Mary Kathryn Nagle's SOVEREIGNTY is currently playing at Arena Stage as part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival. The play, which features flashbacks spanning to the 1830s, follows a modern-day Native American woman, trying to use her powers as a lawyer to restore rights to the Cherokee Nation. SOVEREIGNTY opened January 12th and runs through February 18th.

SOVEREIGNTY features the talents of Joseph Carlson (Andrew Jackson/Ben), Kyla Garcia (Sarah Polson), Michael Glenn (Samuel Worcester/Mitch), Jake Hart (Elias Boudinot/Watie), Kalani Queypo (John Ridge), Andrew Roa (Major Ridge/Roger Ridge), Dorea Schmidt (Sarah Bird Northrup/Flora), Todd Scofield (White Chorus Man), and Jake Waid (John Ross/Jim Ross).

The Creative Team includes Molly Smith (Director), Mary Kathryn Nagle (Playwright), Anita Maynard-Losh (Associate and Text Director), Ken MacDonald (Set Designer), Linda Cho (Costume Designer), Robert Wierzel (Lighting Designer), Ed Littlefield (Sound Design), Mark Holthusen (Projection Designer), Lewis Shaw (Fight Director), Jocelyn Clarke (Dramaturg), Zach Campion (Vocal Coach), Susan R. White (Stage Manager), and Trevor A. Riley (Assistant Stage Manager).
