Virginia's Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre is embracing the spirit of the holiday season by hosting "Pentagon Night" on Wednesday, December 22nd. More than 140 tickets to see the highly anticipated Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard are being given to families of servicemen and women overseas who will not be home for the holidays. In addition, Signature Theatre is teaming up with merchants in Shirlington to give the families a night to remember with food provided by Capital City Brewing Company.

"We cannot express our admiration and gratitude to our country's soldiers enough," said Signature's Artistic Director, Eric Schaeffer. "Pentagon Night is our way of showing our appreciation and saying 'Thank you' to those dedicated men and women - and their families, who we know are missing them each day."

Signature Theatre is collaborating with Blue Star Families for this special event. Founded in 2008 by a collection of military spouses, the non-profit organization works to raise awareness of the challenges faced by military families as well as to support, connect with and empower those families across the nation.

"Signature Theatre's support of military families is truly extraordinary" said Kathy Roth-Douquet, Chair of Blue Star Families. "This will be a special, memorable night of entertainment for troops and families throughout the Capitol region -- from Walter Reed, to the Pentagon, to Fort Belvoir, Quantico, the 8th and I Drum and Bugle Corps, and special protection divisions. It means a great deal to these military families to be remembered by the cultural community."
Sunset Boulevard began previews on December 7th and runs through February 13, 2011. The lush Hollywood musical, based on the classic, Oscar-winning Billy Wilder film, stars Florence Lacey (Broadway's Evita and Signature's Follies) as the tragic silent film star Norma Desmond. Ms. Lacey is complemented by D.B. Bonds (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Signature's The Visit) as Joe Gillis, Susan Derry (Wonderful Town) as Betty, and Ed Dixon (The Iceman Cometh, The Three Musketeers) as Max von Mayerling. Three-time Helen Hayes Award winner J. Fred Shiffman plays Sheldrake. The production is directed by Signature Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer and is played to the music of a 20-member orchestra.
The performance of Sunset Boulevard begins at 7:30pm

Dinner will be served at the Mead Lobby on the 2nd Floor of the Theatre at 6:30pm
