Shenandoah's Scott Bakula to be Luncheon Speaker at National Press Club, April 19

By:

Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. announced that Tony-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Scott Bakula, featured as Charlie Anderson in Shenandoah, will be the luncheon speaker at the National Press Club (NPC), 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 19 (with CSPAN coverage). The event, which will take place at the Ballroom in the National Press Club building (on the 13th floor), is open to the public.

Bakula will speak about his leading role in Ford's Civil War musical Shenandoah, which has been cited for its "impeccable timeliness" and the issues it raises as it poses the question, "what is worth fighting for?" "Set during the Civil War, Shenandoah was written in the 1970s in response to the Vietnam War and is on stage at Ford's as the nation assesses its role in ongoing conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world," state press notes.

The star of television and film also will discuss his star-making work in the television series "Star Trek" and "Quantum Leap," for which he earned numerous awards and nominations. Bakula debuted on Broadway as Joe DiMaggio in Marilyn: An American Fable and received a Tony nomination for his starring role in Romance/Romance. His film work includes the Academy Award-winning American Beauty and Lord of Illusions. He also appeared in a number of television series such as "Designing Women" and "Murphy Brown." As a singer, Bakula has performed at the Kennedy Center Honors, Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl with Carol Burnett.

The National Press Club was established in 1908 to promote free speech and professional journalistic standards. Luncheons provide a national forum for the views of Presidents, Prime Ministers, business and cultural leaders, members of the Cabinet and Congress. NPC luncheons are televised on C-Span.

Tickets are $35 must be reserved at 202-662-7501 or reservations@press.org.
