On Monday, November 10, the Shakespeare Theatre Company presents "The Play's The Thing: An Evening of Hamlet with Ted van Griethuysen," a special reading at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW), beginning at 7 p.m.

Shakespeare Theatre Company Affiliated Artist Ted van Griethuysen celebrates his 80th birthday with a one-man exploration of the Bard's most celebrated and debated text. In this not-to-be-missed event, Ted distills 60 years of playing Shakespeare into a single evening, revisiting roles from a remarkable career including: Hamlet (twice), Laertes (twice), The Ghost (twice), Claudius, Polonius, First Player and the Gravedigger.

Directed by fellow Affiliated Artist Ethan McSweeny, the play is indeed the thing in this unique theatrical event that puts the emphasis on "words, words, words" and allows one of Washington, D.C.'s most beloved actors to bring his extraordinary wealth of experience and talent to bear on some of the most complicated characters ever created for the stage.

Tickets are $40 and available online at ShakespeareTheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at 202.547.1122. A special VIP ticket, including a post-show reception with Ted, is available for $125. Please contact Moriah Mills, Special Events Manager at mmills@shakespearetheatre.org or 202.547.3230 x2330 for more information.

At Ted's request, proceeds from the evening will benefit the Shakespeare Theatre Company's annual Free For All.
