R Street Speaks on H Street
By: Gabrielle Sierra
The Theater Alliance is excited to be partnering with the Duke Ellington School of the Arts' Literary Media & Communications (LMC) Department to present a monthly premier showcase of Ellington students as part of the Hothouse on H series. Titled "R Street Speaks on H Street" this new series will provide a platform for young artists to share their work and engage with other students. Hosted by LMC students, M.A.B. and Isis, the very first R Street Speaks on H Street will be held TONIGHT Tuesday, April 12, 2011 with additional performances scheduled for May and June.
The students are responsible for curating each month's line up, including performances ranging from live painting, to jazz, dance, and vocal talents. Under the advisement of instructors, the students are charged with responsibilities from being producers and artistic directors to operations and marketing. R Street Speaks acts as a major learning experience to their development as arts administrators and valuable community members. "R Street Speaks on H Street" holds its inaugural series TONIGHT, Tuesday, April 12. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, and can be purchased in advance at www.rstspeaks.eventbrite.com.
