THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW to Open at Dance Place with Monumental Theatre Company

Monumental Theatre Company is thrilled to present Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show, running August 22 through September 6, 2026 at Dance Place in Northeast, D.C.

More than fifty years after its original premiere, The Rocky Horror Show remains one of the most beloved cult musicals of all time. The story follows sweethearts Brad and Janet after an unexpected car breakdown leads them to the castle of the charismatic Dr. Frank-N-Furter. What follows is a wild night of science fiction, seduction, self-discovery, and unabashed theatrical mayhem. Featuring iconic songs including 'Sweet Transvestite,' 'Dammit Janet,' and 'Time Warp,' the musical continues to inspire generations of devoted fans around the world.

For Monumental's production, audiences can expect far more than a traditional night at the theatre. Taking inspiration from the decades-long audience participation traditions that have made Rocky Horror a cultural phenomenon, this immersive production will celebrate the show's legacy as a joyful celebration of queer expression.

Long before LGBTQ+ stories were regularly represented on stage and screen, The Rocky Horror Show invited audiences to question convention, embrace individuality, and find freedom in self-expression. Through call-backs, surprises, and interactive moments throughout the evening, Monumental's production aims to capture both the irreverent fun and the radical spirit that have made Rocky Horror a beloved gathering place for generations of outsiders, artists, and queer audiences.

The Rocky Horror Show will be directed by Monumental Co-Artistic Directors Michael Windsor and Jimmy Mavrikes, with Music Direction by Marika Countouris and Choreography by Ahmad Maaty.

'Rocky Horror is one of those rare shows where the audience is just as important as what's happening onstage,' said Directors Michael Windsor and Jimmy Mavrikes. 'We're excited to create an experience that feels communal, celebratory, a little chaotic, and unmistakably queer.'

The cast of The Rocky Horror Show will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Rocky Horror Show runs August 22 through September 6, 2026 at Dance Place, located at 3225 8th Street NE, Washington, DC 20017. Tickets will be available online at www.monumentaltheatre.org.
