Nicholas Stimler Appointed Ford's Thetare Society's Literary & Casting Director

Ford's Theatre Society announced that Nicholas Stimler has been appointed to the position of Literary and Casting Director. Stimler was previously the Assistant to Broadway Director and Choreographer Jeff Calhoun, who is a Ford's Theatre Associate Artist. Stimler will manage literary submissions, develop of the Society's theatrical programming in conjunction with the Ford's programming staff and supervise casting for all productions.

A dramaturge, director and writer Nicholas Stimler has worked with Broadway Director and Choreographer Jeff Calhoun on projects including, but not limited to: "Bonnie & Clyde," Disney's "Newsies," Disney's "High School Musical: On Stage," Deaf West and Center Theatre Group's "Pippin" and the first National Tour of the stage musical adaptation of the Dolly Parton film "9 to 5." Stimler also formerly served on the Literary Committee at Roundabout Theatre Company. Stimler directed the North American premiere of "The Anniversary" by Drew Larimore, published by Vintage in the anthology "Shorter, Faster, Funnier: Comic Plays and Monologues." He graduated with honors from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a minor in Arts Management.

The mission of Ford's Theatre Society is to celebrate the legacy of Abraham Lincoln and explore the American experience through theatre and education. For its accomplishments, the organization was honored in 2008 with the National Medal of Arts, the highest award given by the U.S. government to artists, arts institutions and arts patrons.

Since the arrival of Paul R. Tetreault as Director, critics and the theatregoing public have recognized Ford's Theatre Society for the superior quality of its artistic programming. With works from the nationally acclaimed "Big River" to the world premieres of "Meet John Doe," "The Heavens Are Hung In Black" and "LiberTy Smith," Ford's Theatre is making its mark on the American theatre landscape.

Through the leadership of Wayne R. Reynolds, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the mission of Ford's Theatre Society expanded to include education as a central pillar. This expansion led to the creation and construction of the Center for Education and Leadership, opening in February 2012. The new Center will bring the values and ideals of Lincoln from the past into the present, examining Lincoln's multi-faceted legacy through exhibits, workshops, seminars and speakers, as well as community outreach programs.
