Imagination Stage's Musical Theatre Conservatory will perform Urinetown, an acclaimed musical satire, May 15-17, 2015 in the Christopher and Dana Reeve Theatre. Urinetown's book and lyrics are written by Greg Kotis, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann.

Urinetown runs in Imagination Stage's Reeve Theatre May 15-16, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. and May 17, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301?280?1660.

"Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire about the sustainability of a first-world lifestyle. In our production, we've embraced the Brechtian structure of the play and used it as a learning opportunity for the conservatory students on playing style," says Director Rob Smith of this upcoming performance. "'Expect only the Expected' as this production takes a comedic romp through the conventions of musical theatre-farcically tearing them apart along the way."

Comprised of 11 students from across the DC metro area ranging from grades 8-11, the Musical Theatre Conservatory is an audition based, two year program dedicated to intensive, pre-professional performance training. The first three semesters are spent studying acting and vocal technique (fundamentals of acting, interpretation of lyrics and music, vocal production, movement, musical theatre history, and music theory). The fourth and final semester is spent applying their acquired skills towards rehearsing and performing a fully supported production with a guest team of directors and designers from the professional theatre community of Washington, DC. The directorial staff has a vested interest in getting to know each student personally, and in turn holds high expectations for every performer. This opportunity allows them to apply their technical skills to a performance environment.

Directed and Choreographed by Rob Smith, Urinetown is designed by an entire team of professional designers and artists, including Jason Arnold (Lighting Designer), Collin Ranney (Set Designer), Robert Croghen (Costume Designer), and Andrew Zimmer (Music Director).
