Finalists for The Washington Post 2012 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management Announced - Imagination Stage, Young Playwright's Theater & More


The Washington Post's 2012 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management finalists are Imagination Stage, Bread for the City, Byte Back, Community of Hope, and Young Playwrights' Theater. Administered by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, this annual award is presented to a DC metropolitan area nonprofit and rewards management competence, promotes sustainable best practices, and recognizes innovation that leads to excellence in management. The winner will be announced on Thursday, May 24, at The Washington Post at the Center's annual Best Practices Celebration.

"We are delighted to have made it to the finals and awed to be in such excellent company," said founding Executive Director Bonnie Fogel, reacting to the nomination. "Our fellow finalists are inspirational organizations and have our deepest admiration." Quoting Hunger Games she said, "Let the games begin and may the odds be ever in our favor!"

The award winner is selected through a three-step judging process, including a two-part written application and a site visit. The Award Selection Committee judges organizations in the areas of fiscal management, information and communication, organizational development, people development, planning, resource development, risk management, and use of technology.

The winning organization will receive a $10,000 grant and a scholarship for one person to attend the Georgetown University Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership's Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program. Up to four honorable mentions will each be presented with a $2,500 grant.

"This award becomes more meaningful each year because we continue to grow the impressive compendium of best practices that has been built over the years," said Steve Hills, President and General Manager of The Washington Post. "We are pleased that after 18 years this award still sparks such a rich dialogue around nonprofit management."

Founded in 1979, Imagination Stage is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to produce theatre and arts education programs which nurture, challenge and empower young people of all abilities. It offers year-round professional theatre for young audiences and classes in creative drama/acting, musical theatre, dance, and filmmaking for ages one to eighteen. Imagination Stage is located at 4908 Auburn Avenue, Bethesda, MD.
