BROADWAY

REVIEWS FOR BALTIMORE AUDIENCES AVAILABLE VIA EMAIL

Several of you have asked for recommendations and reviews of shows currently playing in New York.  Because I am a Baltimore-based critic, the permission to formally review in print Broadway shows is difficult to obtain.  So, I have written reviews that are available to you via email.  Currently, I have reviews of Broadway's Wicked, The Drowsy Chaperone (Nominated for 13 Tony Awards) and the long running hit Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the tour of which will be playing Baltimore's Hippodrome later this year.  In June, I'll have reviews of Avenue Q, Sweeney Todd and Tarzan.  And later in the year, I'll have The Times They Are A Changin', A Chorus Line, Mary Poppins and Jersey Boys.  If you are interested, please email me at jameshoward@broadwayworld.com, and be sure to tell me which reviews you'd like.

TOBY'S BALTIMORE & COLUMBIA GOING STRONG – CONTEST ANNOUNCED

I recently had the pleasure of revisiting Thoroughly Modern Millie at Toby's of Columbia.  And I am pleased to report that the show is as sharp and fresh as opening night!  Lauren Spencer-Harris and company continue to delight with superb singing, jaw-dropping choreography, and a laugh a minute script –and the food is scrumptious!  The show continues through June 18th.

The inaugural production at Toby's Baltimore – Disney's Beauty and the Beast is also doing well.  Thanks to those of you who wrote to tell me how delighted you were with the new location and the marvelous show.  That show continues through May 28th.

For tickets and information for both shows go to www.tobysdinnertheatre.com

And… in another first for the Baltimore page, Toby's Baltimore and BroadwayWorld.Baltimore have come together to offer a contest where you can win complimentary tickets to Toby's Baltimore!!  Look for full details, rules, and the contest itself this Thursday morning!

STEBBINS COMMUTES TO BUFFALO FOR SHOW!

Michael Stebbins, RepStage's managing director, is moonlighting it seems.  The link to more information about the show he's doing there is: http://www.buffaloplace.com/ereport/theatre/index.html

Stebbins says, "If you scroll down on the page and check out the right hand column, there is a blurb about the show called CLICK THIS!  This show originated at Stage Door Acting Ensemble of NY, Inc.—my not-for-profit theatre co.—It was wildly popular and, here we are, three years later, and this very fun theatre in Buffalo, NY, picked it up.  I am directing this (in my spare time—long weekends) and hope to share it with Maryland/DC audiences in the near future!"

JOYFUL "Crumbs" CONTINUES AT CENTER STAGE – SPECIAL PROGRAMS ABOUND

Speaking of Michael Stebbins, he and local acting favorite Bruce Nelson were seen at the opening of CenterStage's Crumbs from the Table of Joy.  Also spotted in the opening night crowd was Hairspray's John Waters, and a host of other local celebs.  A good time and standing ovation was enjoyed by all!

The play by Lynn Nottage and directed by David Schweizer continues through June 11th.  In conjunction with the show, CenterStage is offering the following:

Kickin' It with the 'rents on Sunday, May 21st at 7:30PM, and Thursday, May 25th at 8PM.  The program, sponsored by M & T Bank features the show, pre-show activities and a family style dinner for only $8.00 a person!  This show is appropriate for mature middle schoolers and up.

Post-Show Conversations are scheduled after nearly every performance in the Talk Back area of the main lobby.  There will be NO Talk Backs on June 1, 4 or 8.  This event is free.
