Performances begin on the Playhouse stage today, July 2. Performances are evenings 7/2, 7/3, 7/5, and 7/8 - 7/12 (8pm curtain), and Saturday matinees 7/5, 7/12, (2pm curtain). The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company's $10 million campaign - Growing the Arts at Walker Farm - can be a game changer for Southern Vermont, Campaign Chair Wayne Granquist said today. "We are creating a unique project with local, regional and national benefits," Granquist continued. "It offers a great deal for Southern Vermont. It will also provide significant new year-round cultural and entertainment opportunities while helping our young people and strengthening our economy."

Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin today announced the opening of the Playhouse's 2014 summer theater season with the new Mel Brooks Broadway Young Frankenstein (June 17 - 28, 2014). Young Frankenstein features a book by three-time Tony Award-winner Mel Brooks and three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. Young Frankenstein, directed by Keith Andrews with music direction by Thomas Cleary, will feature Matthew Crowle as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, Kathryn Markey as Frau Blucher, Christian Kohn as the Monster, Abby Lee as Elizabeth, Brett Figel as Igor, Ashley McKay as Inga, Bill Carmichael as Inspector Kemp/Hermit, and Zachary Pesner as Ziggy. The ensemble includes Eugenio Contenti, Shelby Davis, Danielle Diniz, Antoinette DiPietropolo, Ian Frazier, Christopher Holloway, Kate Kramitz, Kevin Metzger, Vincent Ortega, and Chelsey Whitelock.
Dorset Theatre Festival to Present World Premiere Play by Leslie Ayvazian

Dorset Theatre Festival is proud to present the World Premiere of Leslie Ayvazian's new comedy Out of the City beginning July 10th. This is the third world premiere that Dorset has produced in the past five seasons, continuing a tradition of New Play Development to which Artistic Director Dina Janis has proven deeply committed. "Fostering new work is one of the most important things we do here at Dorset, from our Young Playwrights workshops, to our New Play Reading Series, to these exciting World Premieres. It's a thrilling and rewarding process." Past world premieres have included Theresa Rebeck's The Novelist and The Whore and Mr. Moore by Michael Cristofer.

Highlights include the world premiere of Paul Gordon's rock musical Analog and Vinyl directed by Michael Berresse, Christopher Lloyd and Campbell Scott in Annie Baker's Uncle Vanya, and Obie winner Dael Orlandersmith in her one-woman Stoop Stories.
Weston Playhouse Theatre's Annual London Tour Set for 11/4-13

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has announced plans for its annual London Theatre Tour, visiting the capital of the English-speaking theatre world from November 4 to 13, 2014. Weston Producing Artistic Director Steve Stettler and London Tour Director Giles Ramsay who have designed the company's 12 previous tours will again be leading the group. Registration has begun, and the company expects to have a full group prior to the official registration deadline of August 4.

FOREVER PLAID to Play Middlebury's Town Hall Theater, 7/17-20

Alfre Woodard Stars in Theresa Rebeck's ZEALOT at DTF Tonight

DTF opens its 39th Summer Season New Play Reading series with a new play by local favorite Theresa Rebeck. The play, Zealot, is a finalist for the Susan Blackburn Prize and is set at the British consulate in Mecca, where a tactical tea is interrupted by news of nearby violence. When a witness seeks asylum, a diplomatic battle of wits ensues, while a life hangs in the balance. The reading will star renowned actress Alfre Woodard and will be directed by award winning director John Doyle.

Dorset Theatre Festival Hosts 7th Annual Retreat for Playwrights

The Dorset Theatre Festival is up and running with its 7th Annual Writers Retreat hosted by Theresa Rebeck in collaboration with The Lark New Play Development Center. Each spring, accomplished writers from across the country are invited to the quaint village of Dorset, where they spend their days writing, their evenings reading new pages, discussing each other's work and generally sharing the process of growing new plays. The Retreat's mission is to support top playwrights, giving them time and space away from their day to day career pressures to concentrate completely on process while getting input from peers and in particular from playwright Theresa Rebeck, who hosts the retreat each spring. "It is exciting how many of our writers began plays at the retreat that have gone on to productions at some of the top theaters across the country. DTF is truly making its mark on the national landscape and that is a dream come true for me personally," says Dina Janis, Artistic Director of DTF.
Lesley Koenig Named New Managing Director of Weston Playhouse Theatre Company

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has appointed Lesley Koenig as its new Managing Director, effective June 2. Koenig, who has been serving as the company's Interim Managing Director through an engagement with Arts Consulting Group (ACG), has instituted a new departmental budgeting model, increased the company's use of social media, and laid the groundwork for new systems in accounting, marketing and development. She was chosen from an impressive pool of 22 candidates garnered from an extensive national search.
