Dorset Theatre Festival Presents THE EVER-MODERN JANE AUSTEN A Talk By Brooke Allen

Dorset Theatre Festival, now in its 41st season, announced today the return of its popular PlayTalks, a series of guest speakers who are experts in their field intended to engage and inform regional audiences in rich and varied ways. The first PlayTalk of the season will take place at the Northshire Bookstore (4869 Main Street, Manchester Center, VT) on August 18 at 6:00 P.M. The event is free and open to the public. Bennington College professor of literature Brooke Allen will give the talk, entitled "The Ever-Modern Jane Austen."

Northern Stage has seen tremendous growth in its Education Department over the past three years. With programs that include the expanded BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools, the newly created Boot Camp, which offers professional training and mentorship for students who want to pursue a career in the arts, the Dartmouth Experiential Learning Term, a fully and professionally produced Summer Musical Theater Intensive, season-long Youth Ensemble Studio groups for elementary, middle, and high school students, and adult learning opportunities that have tripled in participation, the company is expanding its footprint to meet the demand for space. Northern Stage has purchased the property at 93 S. Main Street in White River Junction, VT, formerly operated by Don and Wanda Nalette as Twin State Typewriter, which includes office and storage space on the main floor and five residential apartments on the second floor.

This season, Dorset Theatre Festival aims to expand participation and awareness for its Giving Back Program and thank its regional business partners by hosting three pre-show receptions honoring community heroes. The Second of these Community Partner Nights took place on July 26 in honor Vermont's EMR, EMT, Nurses, and Paramedics. The event was sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW to Play Two Weeks In Two Venues!

Audiences have two more weeks, in two venues, to see Vermont Shakespeare Festival's production of The Taming of the Shrew, a modern take on the 400 year-old comic battle of the sexes.   Performances at Champlain College's Alumni Auditorium are August 3 - 5 in Alumni Auditorium, and outdoors on the Circus Lawn at the Shelburne Museum August 9-11.  The production is co-directed by Artistic Directors Jena Necrason and John Nagle, and features a company of regional and New York actors, and original designs and music.
